Kat's 24150 Silicone Hot pad engine oil pan heater

Application Instructions (partial--after purchase see back of package)

  1. Make sure the heater is being installed on a falt surface area.  A waffled, ridge or segmented surface is not a suitable surface.  DO NOT attempt to fill the recesses with adhesive.

  2. Clean & sand reservoir to bare metal.  Remove all dirt, grease, oil and other contaminants using a degreasing solvent*.  Do not use gasoline or acetone. Do not polish the surface, as a rough surface allows for the best adhesion.

  3. If heater is to be installed on a vehicle, try to run the engine to pre-warm the oil pan to approximately 100 degrees fahrenheit (38C), but not so hot as to inhibit installation.  This will help the adhesive to cure properly.

  4. Apply a liveral amount of silicone adhesive**  to the oil pan surface & the smooth surface of the heater, making sure the printed side of the heater is visible when the heater is mounted to the oil pan.

  5. Position the heater on the clean oil pan, making sure the entire heater mounting surface is coated with adhesive and that there are no air pockets or uncoated spaces.

  6. Using a roller or spreader, squeeze as much adhesive as possible from between the heater and the pan.  Remove all trapped air.

  7. Seal the edges of the heater with high temperature silicone to insure proper protection to the edge of the heater.

  8. Secure the cord up and out of the ways of any obstructions, making sure that it does not hang down from the pan or touch any hot or moving part of the engine.

  9. Thermostatically controlled units:  Using silicone adhesive, position the thermostatic extension strap and thermostat up along the back or side of the oil pan to a point which is below the oil level.

  10. NOTE:  Do not cut pad;  Do not use on battery. Allow 48 hours for proper curing of the adhesive before plugging in the electrical power cord.

*  Permatex 4MA Gasket Remover or equivalent

** Permatex 66, G.E. 106 or equivalent silicone adhesive is recommended.
